Passentin is a district of the city of Penzlin in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). Until January 1, 2012, Passentin was part of the Mallin community .

geography

The village of Passentin is located west of Lake Tollensee . The Aalbach , a left tributary of the Tollense, flows near the village . Not far south of the village is the Malliner See . The city of Penzlin is eight kilometers from Passentin, the center of the district town of Neubrandenburg about ten kilometers.

history

The name of the place can be derived from the Slavic word pacetin (= strong) and could thus refer to the castle ramparts near Passentin. Another possibility would be the derivation from the Old Slavic locator Pačuta or Pačęta, ie " place of Pačuta / Pačęta ".

Since January 1, 2012, Passentin, which was part of the previously independent municipality of Mallin, has belonged to the city of Penzlin.
