history

Mallin

The name of the village Mallin, first mentioned in 1348, could go back to the Slavic terms maly (= small) or malina (= raspberry) . In the course of time Mallin developed into a manor village, whose owners included the von Maltzan family for many decades .

The village church, a plastered brick building, dates from 1757.

The Mallin mansion (castle), which Baron von Hauff had built in 1870/71, is remarkable . The mansion with its eleven axes and a basement appears oversized. After 1945 the castle served as an apartment, kindergarten, artist's studio and restaurant; it has been empty since 1991. A lack of maintenance and vandalism made it visibly dilapidated. The first repairs were carried out in 2007, but the decline has continued since then.

Since January 1, 2012, the previously independent municipality of Mallin, to which the Passentin district also belonged, has belonged to the city of Penzlin.

Economy and Infrastructure

Several independent farmers who are involved in the cultivation of grain, beets and rape as well as beef fattening shape the economic structure in Mallin. There are also smaller craft and service companies. In recent years Mallin has been able to distinguish itself as a residential location - especially for young families - thanks to its proximity to Neubrandenburg . New potential was also tapped in the tourism sector (hotel, holiday apartment, riding stables).

Transport links

Mallin is on the federal highway 192 from Neubrandenburg to Waren (Müritz) . The next larger train station is in Neubrandenburg, a few kilometers away.
