Walther Preik (born March 5, 1932 in Massow ; † May 11, 2018 in Waren an der Müritz ) was a German sculptor .

Life

After completing an apprenticeship as a stonemason from 1947 to 1950, Walther Preik attended the Technical School for Applied Arts in Wismar and, until 1958, the University of Fine Arts in Dresden . After graduating there, he moved to Waren (Müritz) and has been working as a freelancer since then. Sculptures by Preik were a. a. on the VI. (1967), the VII (1972) and the VIII (1977) art exhibition of the GDR in Dresden.

His extensive work includes plaques, small sculptures, fountain sculptures, memorials and memorials. He worked with different materials, including natural stone, plaster, bronze, but also wood and plastic. Numerous animal figures, fabulous figures and monuments are in the public space of northeast German cities. Many of his works can be seen in public spaces, especially in his home town of Waren (Müritz). In 2012 he received the Richard Wossidlo Culture Prize from the city of Waren for his life's work .

From 1993 until his death he worked together with his sons Jan and Ole Preik in the legal form Preik GmbH .
