Honored employee of the customs administration of the German Democratic Republic

The honorary title of Honored Employee of the Customs Administration of the German Democratic Republic was a state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was awarded in the form of a medal. It was donated on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the customs administration of the GDR on March 13, 1972 and is awarded for:

  • excellent achievements and selfless commitment in the consolidation and protection of the workers and peasant power,
  • Increasing the reputation and strengthening the sovereignty of the GDR,
  • for special merits and initiatives to improve the effectiveness of customs services and
  • many years of exemplary personal commitment

The maximum number of awards was limited to only 10 carriers per year.

Appearance

The gold-plated medal with a diameter of 35 mm shows the colored enameled national coat of arms of the GDR on its obverse , which is enclosed by an open laurel wreath. This wreath is also accompanied by the medal inscription : DESERVED EMPLOYEE OF THE CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION OF THE GDR . The reverse of the medal, on the other hand, shows a rod of Mercury surrounded by two laurel branches.

Carrying method

The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest on a pentagonal green 25 mm wide medal clasp, which shows two golden 1 mm wide golden stripes on each side. On the lower edge of the band there is also a pair of gold-plated oak leaves on each side, which is also on the interim clasp.
