Medal for the GutsMuths Prize

The GutsMuths Prize was the highest state award in the GDR for scientific achievements in the field of sports science and sports medicine .

This science award was donated by the Council of Ministers of the GDR on February 9, 1961 to recognize outstanding scientific work for the development of socialist physical culture. Award-worthy works had to show high practical relevance, to show effective scientific solutions or to contain principle solutions.

The prize was financially endowed and could be awarded to individuals or scientific collectives.

The award is named after Johann Christoph Friedrich GutsMuths .
