b) for particularly courageous and determined assistance with endangering life or health in fire fighting, in accidents or other emergencies.

Award application

The badge of honor can only be awarded on application, whereby the authorization to apply is based on the above-mentioned bodies (e.g. the Malteser auxiliary service, etc.). They should not name more than one person for the award of the special level, whereby the application for the award of the special level is not explicitly limited to these positions, but can be requested by all residents and offices of the State of Berlin. Applications from the volunteer fire brigade must be submitted via the professional fire brigade .

Disclaimer

When awarding the honorary mark, the state of Berlin set three reasons for exclusion. These are:

1. The persons to be loaned are worthy of the award through a dignified, general lifestyle.

2. The special level is not awarded to persons who only acted in the course of their professional or official activities, as well as if the rescue medal of the State of Berlin has already been awarded (or is pending) for the underlying act .

3. The award of the rescue medal takes precedence over the medal of honor in the special level, whereas the medal of honor takes precedence in the special level of the commemorative medal.

Lending and handing out body

The honorary badge is awarded by the management of the Senate Administration responsible for interior affairs and is also handed out from the 2nd level onwards, with the issue of the special level being made public in the Official Journal for Berlin.

Proof of ownership and replacement

The entrusted receives a certificate signed by the management of the Senate Department for Internal Affairs and Sport about the award of the honorary mark . The badge of honor itself becomes the property of the person lent; it remains as a souvenir to the bereaved after death. Badges of honor that have been lost will not be replaced, but can be purchased again at your own expense.

Shape and nature of the badge of honor

Badge of honor

The fire brigade and civil protection badge of honor of level 1 to 5 consists of a 45 × 45 mm, red enamelled, white framed cross with curved three-pointed edges in the manner of a widened Pisan cross, on which a white enamelled round shield with the colored national coat of arms is placed . A silver-colored or gold-colored stylized leaf ornament grows out of the four indentations of the cross as well as the corners of the edges, depending on which level was awarded. Levels 3 to 5 also have two crossed oak leaves and the corresponding number on the tape. The back of all steps of the cross bears the embossed inscription: "For help in need / Land Berlin".

Ribbon color

The ribbon for the badge of honor is red-white-red (national colors) with a silver or gold-colored border. The strap buckle is in the same color.

Special level

The fire brigade and disaster control badge of honor of the special level consists of a 45 × 45 mm, red enameled, gold-colored mounted cross with concave arms in the style of the Leopold cross, on which a white enamelled round shield with the colored national coat of arms is applied. A golden oak leaf grows out of the corners of the cross arms. The reverse of the cross bears the embossed inscription: "For help in need / Land Berlin" and a needle with a hook. All gold-colored parts of the cross are (real) gold-plated. The strap buckle of the special level also has four gold-colored stripes with a miniature cross.

Carrying method

The honorary badge is only worn in its original size on festive occasions, in particular:

  • the day of the award of the badge of honor
  • State receptions and
  • Service anniversaries.

The strap buckle can be worn on protective clothing in training and exercise services as well as on missions. The band bridge (mini) is only intended for civilian clothing. It should be noted that after the award of the 2nd level (in gold), the ribbon buckle for the silver medal must be removed. The same applies if the 3rd to 5th level honorary badge has been awarded, the previous level must be taken. Since further information was not given in the administrative regulation on the way of wearing, the special step may be worn as a cross-connector parallel to the last awarded step (on the ribbon).
