Honored employee of the planning bodies of the German Democratic Republic

The honorary title of Honored Employee of the Planning Bodies of the German Democratic Republic was a state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was donated in the form of a medal on November 30, 1978. The title could be awarded for outstanding achievements in the preparation and implementation of the national economic plans and also for special merits and long-term exemplary work in state planning. The medal could only be awarded to individuals, a double award was excluded. The honorary title includes a medal and a premium of 5,000 marks. In addition, the honorary title was conferred by the chairman of the State Planning Commission, which took place every year on the first Saturday in March.

Appearance and wearing style

The gold-plated medal with a diameter of 35 mm shows on its obverse the state coat of arms of the GDR in the middle, surrounded by the inscription: MERIT EMPLOYEE (above) OF THE PLANNING ORGANS OF THE GDR (below). The reverse of the medal, however, showed the four-line inscription: SOCIALISTIC / PLANNING / FOR THE WELL OF THE / PEOPLE . The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest on a 32 × 13 mm wide gold-colored clasp, the hem of which was black and red. The interim clasp was of the same quality and also showed the 10 mm gold miniature of the GDR's national coat of arms.
