The honorary title of Honored Railway Worker of the German Democratic Republic was a state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was awarded in the form of a medal. It was donated on October 9, 1950 and could be awarded for exemplary and disciplined work to strengthen the workers 'and peasants' power in the GDR as well as for decisive promotion of the introduction and further development of new technology at the Deutsche Reichsbahn , if this led to improved work results and the Had increased labor productivity. The honorary title was awarded for the first time in 1951 and was limited to 30 awards a year and was mainly given on the occasion of the Day of the Railway Worker and the Transport Workers (2nd Sunday in June).

Appearance

1. Form

The round decoration with the dimensions 30 × 35 mm was limited by a laurel wreath open at the top, in the upper center of which the raised embossing of a locomotive with train trailers and a steaming chimney can be seen. Under this symbol, the hammer and the compass as well as two golden ears of corn can be seen, which together stand for the national coat of arms of the GDR. A banner follows under the closed laurel wreath, on the red enamelled surface of which the inscription: MERIT EISENBAHNER can be read. The upper edge of the badge, on the other hand, is bounded by a waving colored enamelled German flag (black-red-gold). In later versions, the GDR's national coat of arms was embossed on this flag.

2. shape

In 1956 the layout of the award was changed. It was now in the shape of a medal, was gold-plated and had a diameter of 30 mm. On her obverse she showed two crossed laurel branches open to the top on the lower edge of the medal. On the upper edge was the symbol of the Reichsbahn, an impeller , and below this the three-line inscription: MERIT / EISENBAHNER / VERLEIHUNGSJAHR . The obverse showed the state coat of arms of the GDR.

Carrying method

The first form of honor was worn on a 20 × 18 mm wide clasp, which was also held in equal parts in the colors of Germany, black, red and gold, on the left side of the chest. A 4 mm wide metal strip was placed on it, which showed the year of the award.

The 2nd form of the badge was worn on a rectangular blue cloth clasp, on the two edges of which 3 mm wide black, red and gold stripes were woven. Their distance from the hem was 5 mm. The interim clasp corresponded to the medal ribbon, but showed the gold-plated miniature of the impeller in the middle.
