Pascal Niggenkemper (born June 12, 1978 in Engen , Hegau ) is a German-French jazz musician ( double bass and band leader).

Niggenkemper first learned violin and piano before switching to electric bass and finally double bass at the age of 16 . From 1999 to 2004 he studied jazz double bass at the Cologne University of Music with Dieter Manderscheid , since 2002 classical double bass with Veit Schüßler and from 2005 as a DAAD scholarship holder in New York, where he studied at the Manhattan School of Music with Jay Anderson and obtained his master's degree. He also played in the regional youth big band NRW and in the federal jazz orchestra under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer .

In his preoccupation with improvised music he participated in the multimedia dance project Turbo Pascale , with performances at the Moers Jazz Festival , the Jazzahead Bremen jazz fair and the WDR Jazznight . He was also a member of the Trio Sence (album teine ​​jälg ) and worked with Kristjan Randalu . In 2006 he played in Los Angeles with Maria Schneider , Vince Mendoza and Gonzalo Rubalcaba, among others . He also worked in the Henry Mancini Institute Big Band on the album Elevatiuon . Another trio formation is Pascal's Newfield with guitarist Scott DuBois and drummer Jeff Davis.

With his trio of Robin Verheyen and Tyshawn Sorey, he released the album Urban Creatures in 2010 . His septet Vision 7 , founded in 2011 , to which Frank Gratkowski , Émilie Lesbros , Eve Risser , Frantz Loriot , Christian Lillinger and Els Vandeweyer belong, he presented at the festivals Jazzdor in Berlin (arte live web), Jazz à la Cité in Paris, Vive le Jazz in Cologne and Jazzdor in Strasbourg and Pori Jazz . His CD Lucky Prime was released in 2013 by Clean Feed Records . His trio upcoming hurricane with Simon Nabatov on piano and Gerald Cleaver on drums released an album of the same name in 2011 and toured North America.

Niggenkemper has also played the solo program Look with Thine Ears since 2013 . In 2013 he presented the double trio le 7ème continent at the Vive le jazz festival in Cologne. Niggenkemper also worked with musicians such as Louis Sclavis , Wolfgang Puschnig , Gunther Schuller , Ingrid Schmoliner and Steve Slagle .
