Frantz Loriot

Frantz Loriot (* 1980 ) is a French improvisation musician ( viola ).

Loriot began taking violin lessons at the age of three. He studied musicology at the University of Paris VIII and was part of Pascal Robault's chamber music class at the École Nationale de Musique de Créteil . Régis Huby , Joëlle Léandre , Barre Phillips , David S. Ware and Marc Ducret were mentors on the way to improvisation. He switched to the viola. He played with Joëlle Léandre, the David S. Ware String Ensemble, Anthony Braxton & The Walter Thompson Orchestra, Andrea Parkins , Ben Miller , Jean-Luc Cappozzo , Ingrid Laubrock , Ben Gerstein , Jonathan Moritz , Duane Pitres ED09 Ensemble, Claude Tchamitchian , Eric Brochard and many others. In New York City he led the Systematic Distorsion Orchestra.He was part of the projects Viola 2 Viola (with Cyprien Busolini), Bobun (with cellist Hugues Vincent), Arm Sized Legging (with Matt Renzi, Dan Loomis, Jeff Davis ), Pascal Niggenkempers Vision7 and the trio baloni (with Niggenkemper and Joachim Badenhorst ). He also took part in encounters between poetry and music for the EPM-France label and improvised with various Parisian dance ensembles.
