Ben Gerstein

Ben Gerstein (born July 11, 1977 in Santa Barbara , California ) is an American jazz trombonist , composer and visual artist.

Life

Gerstein moved to New York City in 1995 and studied at the Manhattan School of Music (graduated in 1999). Since then he has been working in the field of jazz , improvisation music and the integration of visual arts and literature; u. a. with Mat Maneri , Tony Malaby , Eivind Opsvik , Tyshawn Sorey and Miguel Zenón . In the field of jazz he was involved in six recording sessions between 1997 and 2011. In 2011 at Roulette (Brooklyn) he presented a composition commissioned by the Jerome Foundation, Freedom Choir! , at the u. a. Chris Speed , Ohad Talmor , Tim Berne , Michael Attias , Darius Jones , Loren Stillman , Dan Weiss , Ches Smith and Mike Pride contributed.
