Eivind Opsvik (* 1973 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian bassist and composer of modern creative and new improvisation music .

Live and act

Eivind Opsvik is the son of industrial designer and jazz musician Peter Opsvik , who u. a. created the Tripp-trapp high chair ( Stokke AS ). Eivind began playing drums as a child; as a teenager he switched to bass. In the 1990s he played in various Oslo jazz and experimental groups and appeared in jazz clubs and festivals. He went on European tours with musicians like Paal Nilssen-Love and Christian Wallumrød . He then studied classical double bass at the Norwegian State Academy of Music and played in the improvisation band The Quintet , with Bjørnar Andresen , Calle Neuman , Ketil Gutvik and Paal Nilssen-Love, with which the first recordings were made.

Opsvik has been working in New York since 1998; u. a. in Jon Irabagon's formation Outright! , in the Nate Wooley Quintet, with Aaron Jennings in the experimental duo Opsvik & Jennings and with Jeff Davis and Tony Malaby in the Ensemble Tone Collector . Opsvik also directs his Ensemble Overseas , which u. a. Jesse Davis , Tony Malaby, and Craig Taborn included ; In 2003 his debut album was released by Fresh Sound New Talent . In New York, Opsvik also worked with Kris Davis ( Life Span ), David Binney / Bill Frisell , Hari Honzu , Harris Eisenstadt ( Recent Developments , 2017), Jesse Harris , Mat Maneri , Jacob Sacks and Paul Motian .
