Jacob Sacks (* 1977 in Monroe , Michigan ) is an American jazz pianist and composer .

Live and act

Jacob Sacks had piano lessons from the age of five; as a teenager he began to occupy himself with jazz and improvisation. He first played with local bands in the Ann Arbor and Toledo (Ohio) area , before he received a grant ( Presidential Scholar in the Arts ) to study at the Manhattan School of Music (lessons with Garry Dial ) in 1995 . After graduating in 1998, he was a finalist in the Thelonious Monk competition the following year . In 1999 he presented his debut album Region , which contained his own compositions and was composed of a quintet with Andrew Bishop, John Wojciechowski , Tim Flood and Dan Weiss .

In the 2000s, Sacks u. a. with David Binney , Jakob Garchik , Eivind Opsvik and Ohad Talmor , in the following decade also with Jon Irabagon and Christophe Schweizer . He also works in a duo with the singer Yoon Sun Choi , with whom he recorded a tribute album for the Sinatra songwriter Joe Raposo. a. also performed in New York's Carnegie Hall . In the field of jazz, Sacks was involved in 39 recording sessions between 1999 and 2017. Sacks, who lives in Brooklyn, is currently (2014) working in a trio with bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer Dan Weiss, in the Landlines quartet with Chet Doxas , Zack Lober and Vinnie Sperrazza . In November 2014 Sacks made a guest appearance at the SWR New Jazz Meeting and performed with Melissa Aldana , Kirk Knuffke , Jakob Bro , Joe Martin and RJ Miller .
