Zack Lober

Zack Lober (actually Zachary Lober , * around 1978 in Montréal ) is a Canadian jazz musician ( double bass , electric bass , composition ), DJ and music producer.

Live and act

Lober, whose grandfather Hyman Herman played with Paul Bley , but also with Oscar Peterson and Maynard Ferguson , studied up to his bachelor's degree at McGill University . Between 2000 and 2005 he worked in Montréal with Ranee Lee , who made the first recordings ( Maple Groove: Songs of The Great Canadian Songbook , 2002), and with Sean Craig, Chet Doxas , John Roney and Jacques Kuba Seguin. He eventually moved to New York City, where he received his Masters degree from the Manhattan School of Music in 2007 . In New York he played again with Chet Doxas, as well as with David Binney , Henry Threadgill , Butch Morris , Frank London , Greg Ward , Jamie Baum ( In This Life , 2012; Bridges , 2018), Christophe Schweizer and Noa Fort . He also made albums with Michel Héroux and Andrew McCormack ( First Light , 2014). In 2008 he recorded his debut album The Story with Lars Dietrich, Samir Zarif (tenor saxophone), John Escreet and Greg Ritchie . His album Ancestry (2013) was created based on the stories told by his grandfather Hyman Herman.

In the field of jazz, he was involved in 17 recording sessions between 2002 and 2017. Lober, who lives in Brooklyn, is a co-founder of The Story and Byproduct , and works with jazz and rock musicians such as Zach Williams, Maria Neckam, Caro Emerald , The Swingle Singers , Steve Stevens , Ian Astbury , Billy Duffy and John Escreet . He also works as a music teacher.
