Caro Emerald

Caro Emerald (born April 26, 1981 in Amsterdam ; actually Caroline Esmeralda van der Leeuw ) is a Dutch pop and jazz singer .
Career
Emerald studied jazz singing at the Amsterdam Conservatory of Music and graduated in 2005. In 2007 she stepped in as a replacement for demo recordings of the song Back It Up by producers David Schreurs and Jan van Vieringen and the Canadian songwriter Vince Degiorgio. Emerald later used the song in her own performances as well.
An appearance on a regional broadcaster then brought her greater fame in 2008, and she then posted a self-made video on YouTube , which further increased her popularity. Eventually Schreurs and van Vieringen founded their own label and, together with Emerald, recorded an album with the assistance of Degiorgio, which was musically based on swing jazz with tango and mambo rhythms from the 1940s and 1950s.
In summer 2009 her debut single Back It Up was released , which brought her her first chart hit in her home country. The second single A Night Like This followed at the end of the year . By the time her debut album was released, the song climbed into the top 10 and finally reached number 2 in the Nederlandse Top 40 . The album Deleted Scenes from the Cutting Room Floor entered the Netherlands at number 1 on the album charts. With interruptions it stayed at the top of the chart for 30 weeks, longer than any previous album in the Netherlands. It was awarded six times platinum for more than 300,000 copies sold. In September 2009 the debut single and album were released in Belgium, in October 2010 in Germany, where they also made it into the charts.
At the MTV Europe Music Awards 2010 she won the audience poll for best artist of the year in the Netherlands and Belgium. With her single A Night Like This she was able to land a number one hit in Austria in April 2011. In Germany, the song rose to number four in the charts.
In 2012 she was awarded the Golden Camera in the Best International Music category.
Her album The Shocking Miss Emerald was released in spring 2013 . In September of the same year, Emerald announced that the concerts, which were scheduled for March in the UK, would be postponed because she was pregnant. In March 2014 she became the mother of a daughter. Another daughter followed in 2017.
