María Adriana Peña Hernández (born March 9, 1964 in Minas ) is a Uruguayan politician .

After completing school in the "Escuela Pública N ° 8 'Guillermo Cuadri'" and the "Liceo Público 'Eduardo Fabini'", she studied at the dental faculty of the Universidad de la República (UdelaR). After successfully completing her degree in 1987, she worked as a dentist in the "Hospital Público" Dr. Alfredo Vidal y Fuentes' ”in Minas.

Peña, who belongs to the Partido Nacional and since 2008 the wing of the Alianza Nacional , was president of the Lavalleja Electoral Commission from 1990 to 1995 (Junta Electoral de Lavalleja). From 2000 she held the position of General Secretary of the Intendencia Municipal de Lavalleja for five years. In the elections of October 31, 2004, she was elected as a member of the Lavalleja Department in the Cámara de Representantes , where she has been a member of the "Comisión de Legislación del Trabajo" since 2005 and took over the vice-presidency. She successfully ran for re-election for the 2010 to 2015 legislative period. In May 2010 she also won the election to the office of “ Intendente Departamental” of Lavalleja. This makes her the first woman in the history of both the department and her party to hold such an office.
