Chet Doxas

Chet Doxas (* 1980 in Montreal ) is a Canadian jazz musician ( saxophone , bass clarinet , flutes ), composer and arranger .

Chet Doxas grew up in a musical family in Montreal and began playing the piano and drums at the age of four before switching to the clarinet and saxophone as a teenager . He earned a Bachelor of Music as a jazz musician from Montreal's McGill University and received a grant from the Banff International Jazz Workshop. Since then he has worked a. a. with Dave Douglas , Oliver Jones , Guido Basso , in the United States also with Maria Schneider , Joe Lovano , Jason Moran and Bill Stewart . He has also appeared on numerous film soundtracks, including Les Triplettes de Belleville (2003) by Sylvain Chomet , and toured with Sam Roberts and Rufus Wainwright .

As a co-leader he plays in the Trio Byproduct with Zack Lober and his brother, the drummer Jim Doxas , as well as in the Montreal Jazz Saxophone Quartet . His debut album Sidewalk Etiquette was released on Justin Time Records in 2006 , followed by Big Sky (2010) and Dive (2013, with Matthew Stevens among others ). With Dave Douglas he led the formation Riverside (album of the same name 2014); he also belongs to the band Rich in Symbols . In the field of jazz, he was involved in 21 recording sessions between 2000 and 2016, including a. with Oliver Jones, Rémi Bolduc and Christine Jensen . Currently (2018) Doxas plays in the formation Landline with Jacob Sacks , Zack Lober and Vinnie Sperrazza .
