Vinnie Sperrazza

Vinnie Sperrazza (* 1979 ) is an American jazz musician ( drums , percussion , marimba ) and composer .

Live and act

Sperrazza grew up near Utica, New York, as the son of a drummer. He studied in New Jersey at William Paterson University ; During this time he began working with the pianist James Williams , which lasted until his death in mid-2004. He has lived in Brooklyn since 2002 and plays a. a. with the formation 40twenty (with Jacob Garchik , Jacob Sacks and Dave Ambrosio ) and the Vinnie Sperrazza-Matt Blostein Band (album Paraphrase ). In 2006 he presented his debut album Peak In ( Fresh Sound Records , with Jacob Sacks and Dave Ambrosio), in 2014 the album Apocryphal with original compositions, on which Brandon Seabrook , Eivind Opsvik and Loren Stillman participated. In the field of jazz, he was involved in 35 recording sessions between 2004 and 2019, including a. with Russ Nolan, Noah Baerman, Ben Holmes and Liam Sillery . In 2018 he played in the Landlines quartet with Chet Doxas , Jacob Sacks and Zack Lober . His current projects include Apocryphal II (with Loren Stillman, Brandon Seabrook, Eivind Opsvik), a trio with Charlotte Greve and a quartet with Chris Speed , Bruce Barth and Peter Brendler .
