Peter Brendler

Peter Brendler (* around 1978 in Baltimore ) is an American jazz musician ( double bass , composition ).

Live and act

Brendler first learned electric bass and initially also played guitar and piano. After attending Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, he earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music in 2001 (“magna cum laude”); then he moved to New York. From 2002 to 2004 he completed his master's degree at the Manhattan School of Music with Jay Anderson , Dave Liebman , Garry Dial and Phil Markowitz . He also appeared in jazz clubs such as Blue Note , Birdland , Smalls , Jazz Standard , Sweet Rhythm, the Kennedy Center and the 55 Bar ; he also toured in Europe and Russia. He worked in the New York jazz scene from the late 2000s a. a. with Rich Perry , Victor Lewis , Barry Altschul , Darren Barrett , Jeff Hirshfield , Frank Kimbrough , Josh Levinson and Jon Irabagon . In the following years he was involved in productions by Tom Tallitsch and Noah Haidu.

Brendler recorded the duo album The Angle Below with John Abercrombie for SteepleChase . In 2013 he recorded the album Outside the Line under his own name (with Peter Evans , Rich Perry , Vinnie Sperrazza ), for which he also wrote his own compositions. The CD Message in Motion ( Posi-Tone ) followed in 2016 , for which he expanded his band to a quartet with Ben Monder . In the field of jazz he was involved in 13 recording sessions between 2009 and 2015. He currently leads his own quintet, which includes Rich Perry, Billy Drewes , Zach Lapidus (piano) and Mark Ferber .
