55 Bar is a jazz club located in the Manhattan borough of New York .

The 55 Bar , named after number (55 Christopher Street ), is located in Greenwich Village , Manhattan. Schiller's Liquor Bar has existed in this building since 1919 (and also during Prohibition) . In 1971, musician Gary McFarland died in Bar 55 , possibly from an overdose of liquid methadone . In the 1980s Leni and Mike Stern as well as Wayne Krantz played in the 55 Bar , and since the 1990s also u. a. Jonathan Kreisberg and Vic Juris .

Krantz recorded several live albums there such as 2 Drink Minimum ( enja , 1995), Greenwich Green (1998) and Your Basic Live (2002); Furthermore, musicians like Laurent Medelgi, JD Walter, David Binney and most recently Noah Preminger ( Pivot: Live at the 55 Bar , 2015) recorded albums there.
