Jazz standard
The Jazz Standard is a New York City jazz club that has existed since 1997 .
It is located in the Rose Hill neighborhood in the basement of Blue Smoke Restaurant at 116 East 27th Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue . Live recordings were made in the club. a. by Gary Bartz , Maria Schneider , Dave Douglas , Bill Mays , Wolfgang Muthspiel with Mick Goodrick , Fred Hersch and Roger Kellaway . Three tribute bands - Mingus Dynasty , the Mingus Big Band and the Mingus Orchestra with Wayne Escoffery , Alex Foster , Frank Lacy and John Clark - play the music of Charles Mingus at the Mingus Mondays . The recording of a concert by the Mingus Big Band was awarded a Grammy in 2011 .
The club offers a jazz for kids program on Sunday afternoons . Christiane Bird counted him in Da Capo jazz and blues lover's guide to the US one of the most important jazz clubs in town; he is "one of the most enjoyable of the newer upscale clubs."
