The Park Avenue in the district of Manhattan in New York City is one of the most famous streets of the city. It was originally called Fourth Avenue .

In the middle section, the street runs through Midtown Manhattan , the largest concentration of offices and hotels in the world with around three million jobs . There is the Waldorf Astoria . The MetLife Building (then Pan Am Building ) was built on 200 Park Avenue (above Grand Central Terminal ) in 1963. With an area of around 260,000 m², it was the largest office building in the world at the time. The Metropolitan Life Insurance Company has been based there since 1991 . At 740 Park Ave. a. the Rockefellers , the Chryslers, and the Vanderbilts .

The Grand Central Terminal train station is located on Park Avenue . Between the station and 97th Street , the Metro-North Railroad suburban trains travel in a tunnel under the road, then the trains travel on a viaduct to the bridge over the Harlem River . Access to FDR Drive is near 132nd Street .
