Oliver Theophilus Jones (born September 11, 1934 in Montreal ) is a Canadian jazz pianist and composer.

Live and act

Oliver Jones took piano lessons from the age of five, first with Madame Bonner from the Église Unie in the “Petite Bourgogne (Saint-Henri)” district, made famous by Trevor Payne's Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir . He received further instruction from Oscar Peterson's sister, Daisy Peterson Sweeney .

After performing locally, he toured the United States with a band called "Bandwagon". From 1980 he worked a. a. as resident pianist at the " Charlie Biddles Jazz Club" in Montreal (1981 to 1986), where he a. a. performed with Biddle and drummer Bernard Primeau . At the same time he performed in Canada, but also in Europe, at festivals, concerts and clubs, either as a solo artist or with a trio.

In 1986 he won a Juno Award for his album Lights of Burgundy and in 1989 the “Félix Prize” for his album Just Friends . The pianist, who has received several honorary doctorates, has taught music at Laurentian University in Ontario (1987) and McGill University in Montreal (1988).
