history
Banff got its name in 1884 from a former director of the Canadian Pacific Railway , Lord Stephen, or after his Scottish hometown Banff .
The Banff Mountain Film Festival has been held annually since 1976, and the Banff World Television Festival since 1979 as the international meeting of the television industry.
nature
Various mountain peaks can be seen from the city, including the 2,998-meter high Cascade Mountain and Mount Norquay . A mountain gondola - originally a system based on the Bell / Wallmannsberger system - has been leading up to the nearby Sulfur Mountain since 1959 .
The rapid growth of the city of Banff in recent years has fueled fears that the untouched nature of the nature park of the same name could be damaged. The federal government has therefore taken restrictive measures, including stipulating that only those citizens who have a job there are allowed to reside in Banff. The censuses of 2001 and 2006 show a population decrease from 7135 to 6700.
