Sylvain Chomet
Sylvain Chomet (born November 10, 1963 in Maisons-Laffitte , Seine-et-Oise , today the Yvelines department ) is a three-time Oscar- nominated French film director , comic book writer and screenwriter of animated films .
Life and accomplishments
Chomet graduated from a college of applied arts in 1982. In 1986 he published his first comic, Le secret des libellules , and others followed. For three years he attended the comic strip studios in the French city of Angoulême and graduated in 1987 with a diploma. He moved to London and directed animated television commercials. From 1993 he lived in Canada for a while doing television commercials.
His first animated short was The Old Lady and the Doves ( La vieille dame et les pigeons ) (1997). In 1997 he won a British Academy Film Award for Best Animated Short Film and the Genie Award in the Best Animated Short Film category . In 1998 he was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Animated Short Film. It took ten years to develop this film, and the next one was completed in half that time. Chomet directed, wrote the screenplay and worked as a character designer in the acclaimed cartoon The Great Race of Belleville (2003). In 2004 he was nominated for an Oscar in the categories of Best Animated Feature Film and Best Song , and in 2004 he was nominated for César in the categories of Best Film and Best First Work and at the Independent Spirit Awards 2004 . Various other awards were also given to Chomet's works.
In the international episode film Paris, je t'aime (2006), which presents Parisian boroughs, he created the part about the Eiffel Tower .
He also worked as a comic book writer. For example, he received the Prix René Goscinny at the Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d'Angoulême in 1996 for the album Léon la came .
Chomet lives near the Scottish city of Edinburgh . His film studio is called Django Films . In 2010, Chomet released L'Illusionniste, an animated film based on an unpublished screenplay by Jacques Tati and taking on the famous comedian as the title character. This earned him another nomination for best animated feature film.
Sylvain Chomet made his first non-animated feature film with Attila Marcel in 2013. In 2014, he created a couch gag for the opening sequence of an episode of the animated series The Simpsons .
