Jesse Davis (* 9. November 1965 ) is an American jazz - saxophonist .

Live and act

Jesse Davis grew up in New Orleans and began his musical career as a student at Ellis Marsalis ' New Orleans Center for Creative Arts . He then studied from 1982 at Northeastern Illinois University ; he also played with Von Freeman and Redd Holt . After continuing his studies at William Patterson College (among others with Rufus Reid ) and graduation, he worked as a professional musician and played in the bands of Illinois Jacquet , Ray Brown , Roy Hargrove ( Family , 1995), Milt Jackson ( Burning in the Woodhouse , 1994 ), Nicholas Payton , Akira Tana , Cedar Walton ( Firm Roots ).
Davis has recorded a number of albums under his own name for the Concord Jazz label since the early 1990s with musicians such as Jacky Terrasson , Mulgrew Miller , Rufus Reid , Lewis Nash , Ron Carter , Jimmy Cobb and Hank Jones . In the early 2000s, Davis also played in the bands of Terell Stafford and Jim Rotondi ( The Pleasure Dome ). He also worked with Jack McDuff , Illinois Jacquet and John Marshall , in 2019 with Charles Tolliver ( Connect ). According to Richard Cook and Brian Morton , Davis' hardbop style is heavily influenced by Cannonball Adderley and Phil Woods .

Prizes and awards

In 1989 Davis received the "Most Outstanding Musician Award" from Down Beat magazine .
