John Marshall (trumpeter)
John Thomas Marshall (born May 22, 1952 in Wantaugh , New York ) is an American jazz trumpeter .
Live and act
Marshall had been on the New York jazz scene since 1971, playing with Benny Goodman , Ornette Coleman , Buddy Rich , Dizzy Gillespie , Buck Clayton , Mario Bauzá and the Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra. Between 1987 and 1991 he directed the quintet Bopera House , with which he released a CD on VSOP, and was active as a lecturer. From 1992 to 2017 he was a member of the WDR Big Band Cologne ; he also appears in a quintet with Ferdinand Povel . He can also be heard on records by Sarah Jane Morris , Supernova , Rein de Graaff , Herb Geller , Dizzy Gillespie, Phil Collins , Bernard Purdie and Lena Bloch . He also teaches at the Cologne University of Music .
