Peter Ypma

Peter Ypma (born July 15, 1942 in Indonesia , † July 29, 2013 ) was a Dutch jazz drummer .

Live and act

Ypma was a member of the groups of Pim Jacobs , Herman Schoonderwalt and Jan Huydts after finishing school at the Thorbecke Lyceum in The Hague . During part of the 1960s he was part of the Dutch Swing College Band and toured with them. After a short stint with the SFB Big Band , he worked for the Vara Tanzorchester, the Metropole Orkest and Rogier van Otterloo .

He also accompanied Rita Reys and Greetje Kauffeld , later Soesja Citroen and Laura Fygi . For many years he taught drums at the Rotterdam Conservatory , where he was one of the founders of the jazz course. Hans van Oosterhout , Arnoud Gerritse, Juan van Emmerloot, Joost Kroon and Lucas van Merwijk are among his students. He was also active in his own Peter Ypma Plus Eleven and many combos.
