The Northeastern Illinois University (also neiu called) is a state university in Chicago in the US state of Illinois . The main campus is located in the North Park area , which is supplemented by three further branches in the Chicago metropolitan area. The NEIU was founded in 1867 and there are currently 13,796 students enrolled.
In terms of ethnicity, the student body is one of the most diverse in the American Midwest . NEIU is home to one of the oldest active university radio stations, WZRD Chicago 88.3 FM.
history
Northeastern Illinois University's origins go back to Cook County Normal School (now Chicago State University ), which was founded in Englewood, Illinois in 1867. After several name changes, this college was named “Chicago Teachers College”. After further mergers, the "Northeastern Illinois University" in its current form emerged in 1967 from the colleges, which finally merged into one overall institution.
Admission criteria, courses and sports offer
To be admitted to the NEIU, students must demonstrate above-average school performance in order to be accepted.
Bachelor and master programs are offered in the university's three different colleges ( faculties ): the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business and Management, and the College of Education.
The NIU served in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for 20 years until it was inducted into the senior National Collegiate Athletic Association in 1988.
The teams of the various sports teams at the university call themselves the "Golden Eagles". This golden eagle represents the university's heraldic animal.

Approximately 1,800 students leave the NEIU every year. These graduates form Northeastern Illinois University's international alumni network.
