Concord Records

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Concord Records is one of the former car dealer Carl Jefferson 1973 (as Concord Jazz based) Jazz - Label . Previously, in 1969 Jefferson founded the immediately successful Concord Jazz Festival (at that time still Concord Summer Festival) in Concord , California . He started the label, funded by the sale of his Ford auto dealership, so he could hear his favorite musicians on record (he was a fan of the then marginalized mainstream jazz ) and started with some jazz guitarists ( Herb Ellis , Dee Bell , Charlie Byrd , Barney Kessel , Joe Pass ). Other musicians on the label are Mel Tormé , Tony Bennett , Rosemary Clooney , Stan Getz , George Shearing , Marian McPartland ( Ain't Misbehavin ': Live at the Jazz Showcase 2000), Shelly Manne , Bud Shank , Laurindo Almeida , The LA 4 , Dave Brubeck , Diane Schuur , Toshiko Akiyoshi , Ray Brown , Cal Collins , Bill Evans , Scott Hamilton , Woody Herman , but also Barry Manilow , Vanessa Williams , Bob Maize and Paula Abdul . From 1989 to 1995, the label organized solo piano concerts in the Maybeck Recital Hall of Dick Whittington .

In 1999 the label was taken over by Hal Gaba and television producer Norman Lear and relocated to Beverly Hills . It bought Fantasy Records in 2004 and Telarc Records in 2005 . The company is now called Concord Music Group .

The sub-label “Concord Picante” is dedicated to Latin jazz (e.g. Cal Tjader , Tito Puente , Mongo Santamaría , Poncho Sanchez ), “Concord Classic” to classical music.

Concord Music took over the record label Razor & Tie in early 2018 . In autumn 2019 it acquired the indie label Victory Records (specializing in music from the hardcore, metal and post-hardcore areas) and Another Victory Publishing .
