Joachim Badenhorst (born October 13, 1981 in Antwerp ) is a Belgian saxophonist and clarinetist .

Live and act

Badenhorst received classical clarinet lessons during his childhood. He studied at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag with John Ruocco and Michael Moore ; In 2005 he finished his studies. In 2009 he moved to New York , where he currently lives in Brooklyn . With Frantz Loriot and Pascal Niggenkemper he forms the trio baloni . He plays with Sissel Vera Pettersen and Mikkel Ploug in the improvisation trio Equilibrium , which released its third album, Liquid Light, in 2014.

Along with Simon Toldam, Badenhorst belongs to the Han Bennink Trio , the first trio that the Dutch drummer leads under his own name. He is also a member of the nonet of saxophonist Tony Malaby and of Thomas Heberer's Trio Clarino . With Brice Soniano he formed the duo Rawfishboys , which released two albums. He has also appeared with Fred Van Hove , C. Spencer Yeh, Toma Gouband, John Butcher , Josh Berman , Fumio Yasuda and Agustí Fernández .
