Fedra
Fedra in Greek Φαίδρα , ( the radiant ), common German spelling Phädra , is an opera in two acts in Italian, which was composed in 1820 by the Bavarian composer Johann Simon Mayr . It is the penultimate opera composition by Mayr. The libretto is by Luigi Romanelli and is based on the tragedy Phèdre by Jean Racine . The opera was premiered at La Scala in Milan on December 26, 1820.

The content comes from Greek mythology . It is the story of the royal couple Phaidra and Theseus . His son from his first marriage, Hippolytus , is desired by Fedra. But Hippolytos is secretly in love with Aricia and forgiven. The drama takes its course and the servant of Fedra, Fedra herself and Hippolytus die.
Re-performance
The German premiere of the opera took place on March 30, 2008 at the Braunschweig State Theater , 188 years after the premiere. The title role in Braunschweig was performed by Capucine Chiaudani, soprano Rebecca Nelsen, tenor Tomasz Zagorsk, staged by Kerstin Maria Pöhlers.
