Jonathan Moritz

Jonathan Moritz (* 1977 in Tehran ) is an American jazz - saxophonist (tenor, soprano) and music teacher.

Moritz, who comes from a Persian-Jewish-Belgian family, grew up in southern California and studied at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels from 1995-98 , then at the California Institute of the Arts until 2000 , where he studied with Wadada Leo Smith and Vinny Golia and in 2000 obtained a Bachelor in Jazz Performance; then he moved to New York City . In 2000 he presented his debut album Xanadu , which he recorded in a trio with Lindsey Horner and Lieken Venken . Recordings were also made with Mike Pride , James Ilgenfritz , Jason Stein , Jon Irabagon , Eugene Chadbourne , Ben Gerstein , John McLellan , Sam Mickens , Eivind Opsvik and Nate Wooley . In the field of jazz he was involved in six recording sessions between 1999 and 2012. Moritz worked as a music teacher at Oakwood High School in Los Angeles, the University of Michigan and the University of California, San Diego . In 2007 he obtained a master's degree in music education .
