Haug was also a co-owner of the paper mill Mühle am Baum , named after the village of the same name, Müller am Baum , which is now part of the district town of Miesbach .

Foundation of the Louisenthal paper factory

In 1878 Carl Haug acquired the area of the former Louisenthal spinning factory and former factory for the manufacture of iron goods, the production site of the well-known Gmund pencils near Gmund am Tegernsee . Haug considered the location, with its resources and expandable transport links, suitable for building a paper mill here, taking into account the existing properties .

In 1879 the Louisenthal paper mill was established, equipped with its first Fourdrinier paper machine , and was able to start production on site after the construction work was completed.

Local train from Gmund to Schaftlach

Since the previous owners almost all failed because of the unfavorable traffic conditions, Haug pushed ahead with the construction of a local railway from Schaftlach to Gmund am Tegernsee . The local railway was opened in 1883, and carriage of goods from Gmund to Schaftlach was no longer necessary.
