Flin van Hemmen

Flin van Hemmen (* 1982 in Nijmegen ) is a Dutch jazz and improvisation musician ( drums , piano , composition ).

Live and act

Van Hemmen first learned to play the guitar before switching to drums. At the age of 18 he moved to Amsterdam, where he a. a. played with musicians such as Harmen Fraanje , Robin Verheyen and Clemens van der Feen , with whom he formed the formation Narcissus , with which two albums were created. Recordings were also made with Gideon van Gelder and Bram De Looze . He also worked in a trio with Jasper Blom and Arnold Dooyeweerd .

From 2009 he worked in the New York improvisation scene a. a. with Patrick Breiner , Kris Davis , Tony Malaby , Eivind Opsvik and Jacob Sacks . His current (2016) music projects are the Trio LathanFlinAli (with Lathan Hardy and Sean Ali ), the Flin van Hemmen Trio (with Todd Neufeld and Eivind Opsvik), a duo with the drummer Carlo Costa , While We Still Have Bodies (with Michael Foster , Ben Gerstein and Sean Ali), Gestures (with the poet Eliot Cardinaux ); he also appears as a percussion soloist.

In 2016 he released his debut album Drums of Days (Neither / Nor Records), with Todd Neufeld, Eivind Opsvik and Tony Malaby and Eliot Cardinaux as guest musicians.
