Todd Neufeld

Todd Neufeld (born August 5, 1981 in Huntington (New York) ) is an American jazz guitarist .

Live and act

Neufeld had guitar lessons early on; at the age of 13 his guitar teacher introduced him to the music of Charlie Christian . He was later influenced by soundtracks from films by Abbas Kiarostami , Richard Pryor and Carl Theodor Dreyer . From the 2000s he worked a. a. in the New York jazz and improvisation scene with Samuel Blaser ( Pieces of Old Sky , Clean Feed 2009), in the Flin van Hemmen Trio (with Eivind Opsvik ), Stephanos Chytiris Flux Project, also with Masabumi Kikuchi , Lee Konitz , Gerald Cleaver , Dan Weiss , Aaron Parks , Richie Barshay , Thomas Morgan , Joachim Badenhorst , Ingrid Laubrock , Vitor Gonçalves and Matt Steckler . He was also involved in the recordings of Tyshawn Sorey ( Koan , 2009) and Alexandra Grimal ( Andromeda , Ayler Records , 2012). Currently (2016) he leads his own quartet (with Rema Hasumi , Thomas Morgan, Tyshawn Sorey, Billy Mintz ), with whom he performs in New York clubs such as Cornelia Street Cafe . Neufeld lives in Brooklyn.
