Finishing plane
The finishing plane is a hand plane for machining workpieces made of wood.
It is used for finishing , smoothing and leveling rough sawn surfaces and edges and for processing end-grain wood. The simple plane iron of the finishing plane is ground straight, according to DIN 5145 it is 45, 48 or 51 mm wide and has a cutting angle of 45 °. Often the technique of the "midget" is used, in which the plane is not guided parallel to the grain but at an angle to it. The surface produced is medium-fine and is further processed with other planes.
