Claude Tchamitchian (born December 26, 1960 in Paris ) is a French double bass player and composer of Armenian origin and can be attributed to the style of creative jazz .

Live and act

Tchamitchian comes from a musical family (both parents were pianists, the father a student of Alfred Cortot ). He started as an autodidact on the double bass, but perfected himself at the Avignon Conservatory . There he met André Jaume and Rémi Charmasson , with whom he had a highly acclaimed appearance at the 1988 Festival of Sorgues . During the next few years he worked with musicians from the French scene such as Yves Robert , Sylvain Kassap , Stéphan Oliva , Gérard Siracusa , Gérard Marais , Raymond Boni , Antoine Hervé , Jacques Thollot , François Corneloup , René Bottlang , Philippe Deschepper , Claude Barthélemy and Sophia Domancich together, but also with Jimmy Giuffre , with Eric Watson , with Linda Sharrock and with Joe McPhee . He heads the “Lousadzak” group. In recent years he has also been active in Vincent Courtois' trio and in various formations with Andy Emler , with whose "Megaoctet" he performed in Germany and Switzerland in 2009.

Tchamitchian is also active as a music teacher and founded the Emouvance label in 1994 with Daunik Lazro and Raymond Boni , which he still manages today.
