Jacques Thollot

Jacques Thollot (* 9. October 1946 in Vaucresson , Seine-et-Oise , † 2. October 2014 in Mainneville , Eure ) was a French jazz - drummer , composer and bandleader .

Life

Thollot was already playing with Sidney Bechet at the age of ten . A few years later he giggged with Bud Powell , Guy Lafitte , René Thomas , but also with Chet Baker , Art Farmer , Lee Konitz and Donald Byrd . After attending the conservatory and taking private lessons with Kenny Clarke , he played with Jef Gilson and with Barney Wilen (with whom he also toured Africa). In 1968 he first caught on on the international jazz scene with Don Cherry's Eternal Rhythm Orchestra. From 1969 to 1971 he played in the free jazz groups of Joachim Kühn and Eje Thelin , but also with Michel Portal and with Linda and Sonny Sharrock .

In 1971 he presented his first record Quand le son devient aigu, jeter la girafe a la mer . He then worked again in Don Cherry's quartet, but also with Siegfried Kessler , Mino Cinelu and Beb Guérin . With JF Jenny-Clark and François Jeanneau he recorded his album watch devil go, which is more in the fusion area . The album Cinq Hops (1978) was created with the American soprano Elise Ross, François Jeanneau, François Couturier , Michel Graillier and Jean-Paul Céléa . He then worked with Jean-François Pauvros, Philippe Deschepper , Jean-Pierre Arnoux and Terry Day . In 1992, he took Tony Hymas and Jean-François Jenny-Clark , the plate A Winter's Tale on. In 1996 he finally released the album Tenga niña with Noël Akchoté , Tony Hymas and Claude Tchamitchian , on which his daughter, the composer and singer Marie Thollot, can also be heard in one piece.
