Jean the dreamer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jean the Dreamer (French: Jean le bleu) is a novel by Jean Giono from 1932. The German edition was published in 1934 under the title The Dreamer . Although largely autobiographical, Giono admits that he added anecdotes here and there and left others out.

The novel tells of Giono's youth in Provence , where he grew up as the son of an ironer and a shoemaker. Like all of his works, this one also exudes a Provencal scent and overflows with luminous anecdotes. The atmosphere of the book may be indicated by the following line:

All human happiness lies in small valleys.

The book was filmed in 1978 by Hélène Martin with Jean-Paul Farre, Geneviève Mnich, Michel Robin, David Salkin, Ginger Salkin and Paul Savatier in the leading roles.
