René Bottlang

René Bottlang (* 1. May 1953 in St. Gallen ) is a Swiss jazz - pianist and composer .

Bottlang studied at the Conservatory in Lausanne and at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern . In the mid-1970s he made guest appearances with his Orchester à musiques at several jazz festivals, including in Paris, Moers and Zurich. He also toured with his group Madame Schwab . In 1977 he moved to Paris and worked as a pianist and composer with musicians from the French jazz scene. Since 1978 he lived in the south of France. From 1980 he performed as a soloist (three solo albums between 1980 and 2002), but also played in a duo with Michel Gaudry and François Jeanneau . In 1983 he appeared in a trio with André Jaume and Bruno Chevillon at the Zurich Jazz Festival . In 1987 he played in a duo with the pianist Mal Waldron in Lausanne . In the following years he also worked with Barre Phillips , Christian Lété , Chris Biscoe , Steve Lacy and Jean Querlier. In 1991 he was one of the co-founders of the TBMT quartet , which played both piano and drums twice. The album Hommage à Boby Lapointe was created in 1994 with his quintet and Phil Minton as a guest soloist . In 1995 he temporarily moved to Vienna , which promoted appearances with Franz Koglmann and an increased presence in Eastern Europe. In 1997 he traveled to Mongolia for a long time and dealt with the local traditional music. As a result, there were crossover projects.

As a composer he created, among other things, commissioned works for festivals, media and for the Berlin Konzerthaus am Gendarmenmarkt , and wrote solo concerts and duo works.
