Bruno Chevillon (born August 23, 1959 in Valréas ) is a French double bass player who is known both in avant-garde jazz and in new improvisation music.

Live and act

Chevillon studied from 1979 to 1983 at the École des Beaux-Arts in Avignon (graduated with the Diplôme National d'Expression Plastique ). In addition, from 1980 he took lessons in classical double bass at the Conservatory with Joseph Fabre. In 1983 he joined the newly founded class for jazz and improvisation under André Jaume .

In Lyon he met Louis Sclavis , with whom he has worked regularly ever since. As a member of his quartet and septet, he participated in world tours and recorded music for dance, drama and film with him. He also works regularly with the bands of Marc Ducret , Michel Portal , Stephan Oliva , Guillaume Roy , Christophe Marguet , Régis Huby , Dominique Pifarély , Daniel Humair and the Arditti Quartet . As a sideman he stepped u. a. with Sophie Agnel , Joey Baron , Claude Barthélémy , Tim Berne , Jean-Paul Céléa , François Corneloup , François Cotinaud , Dave Douglas , Jean-Pierre Drouet , Barry Guy , Joëlle Léandre , Paul Motian , Barre Phillips , Wolfgang Puschnig , François Raulin ( Trois plans sur la comète , 2002), Wolfgang Reisinger , Yves Robert , Bernard Struber and Frances-Marie Uitti .

As part of the Caravaggio group , he plays improvised contemporary music with Eric Echampard , Samuel Sighicelli and Benjamin de la Fuente , and in the Soffio di Scelsi project he interprets the music of Giacinto Scelsi with Jean-Marc Foltz and Stephan Oliva . He also improvises with musicians such as Jean-Marc Foltz, Hasse Poulsen , Guillaume Roy , Franck Vigroux , Sophie Agnel and Pascal Contet . In 2014/2015 he was a member of the Orchester National de Jazz under the direction of Olivier Benoît .

He also works as a musician for film (under Jean-Louis Comolli ), theater (under Christine Véricel ) and dance (under Mathilde Monnier ). In 1994 he wrote the piece PPP ou la rage sublime for solo double bass and vocals as a homage to Pier Paolo Pasolini , which he performs solo as double bass player, singer and reciter.
