Hasse Poulsen (* 1965 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish jazz guitarist and composer.

Live and act

Poulsen had private guitar lessons from Christian Sievert , Karsten Houmark , Brett Wilmott and Mike Stern . From 1985 he studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Between 1988 and 1990 he took composition lessons from Bent Sørensen . In 1990 he graduated from the Jazz Conservatory in Copenhagen with a diploma as a guitarist and music teacher. In his search for his own expression, he was influenced by György Ligeti , Conlon Nancarrow , Karlheinz Stockhausen , Per Nørgård , John Cage and the Fluxus movement as well as by Keith Rowe and Derek Bailey .

Poulsen lives in Paris, where he works as a sideman a. a. worked with Louis Sclavis , Hélène Labarrières Quartet, Guillaume Roy's Sextet and Peter Corser's Blackberry Quartet , Louis Moholo and Edward Perraud .

In 1991 he founded the group Sound of Choice with saxophonist and flautist Fredrik Lundin and drummer Lars Juul . He gave more than 150 concerts with the group, made radio recordings in Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Germany and recorded four albums with her. As guests with the band u. a. Barry Guy , Markus Stockhausen and Raymond Strid . Together with the string quartet Quatuor Ixi ( Regis Huby , Iréne Lecoq , Guillaume Roy and Alain Grange ), Sound of Choice recorded the album Invisible Correspondence in 2002 .

Since performing together in Helsinki in 1999, Poulsen has formed the Sound Kitchen trio with Teppo Hauta-aho and Jari Hongisto . In 2002 he founded the group Das Kapital with Daniel Erdmann and Edward Perraud , which will still exist in 2019. For their album Ballads & Barricades , the trio received the 2011 German Record Critics Award . In 2006 Poulsen founded the quartet SPEEQ at the Banlieues Bleues Festival with Luc Ex , Phil Minton and Mark Sanders . He also plays in an improvisation trio with Guillaume Roy and Bruno Chevillon and in the Titanic duo with Pierre Dørge .

Poulsen's composition Cinema Scandinave was premiered in Copenhagen in 2005 and was released on album in 2008 (with Anders Banke , Torben Snekkestad , John Ehde , Lars Andreas Haug and Jakob Davidsen ).
