Edward Perraud (born June 1, 1971 in Nantes ) is a French percussionist and drummer who has emerged in both new improvisation music and jazz .

Live and act

Perraud learned guitar from the age of eight, later he studied trombone and classical percussion at the Conservatory in Rennes . After completing his master's degree in musicology at the University of Rennes , he began his doctoral studies with Hugues Dufour at IRCAM , which he continued at the CNSM with Jean-Marc Chouvel. He also took lessons from Daniel Humair (jazz drums) and Biplap Battacharya ( tablas ).

Since 1990 he has played in the Zeuhlband Shub-Niggurath and later in improvisation ensembles around Jean-Luc Guionnet and Bertrand Denzler such as Hubbub and since 2008 in a duo with Jean-Pierre Drouet ; he also performed in the field of modern jazz with Yves Robert , Sylvain Kassap , Louis Sclavis and Joe Rosenberg . He played free pop with the group of Frederick Galiay. Since 2003 he has also accompanied Damo Suzuki in the Networks group . Since 2004 he has been part of the trio Das Kapital with Daniel Erdmann and Hasse Poulsen , which received the German Record Critics Award 2011 for its album Ballads & Barricades .

In 2001 he founded his own quartet Synaesthetic Trip with Benoît Delbecq , Bart Maris and Arnault Cuisinier, who released albums such as Synaesthetic Trip (2012) and Beyond the Predictable Touch (2015). He also appears in a duo with Élise Caron , with Paul Rogers and with Jean-Luc Cappozzo and in the trio of Abdelhaï Bennani . He also played with Michel Portal , Fred Frith , Henri Texier , Joëlle Léandre , Mark Helias , Vincent Courtois , Claude Tchamitchian and Alan Silva .
