Abdelhaï Bennani

Abdelhai Bennani (* 1950 in Fez , Morocco ; † 21st August 2015 ) was a French tenor saxophonist of Jazz .

Abdelhaï Bennani was initially influenced by traditional rhythms as a child; at the age of eleven he discovered western music and jazz records on the radio. Due to the music of Jimi Hendrix , he finally dealt with improvisation . After completing his baccalaureate, he moved to Marseille to study biology, but switched to music at the end of his studies. He moved to Paris as a saxophonist, studied between 1983 and 1985 at the Institute Art Culture Perception (IACP) under the direction of Alan Silva , with whom he worked in the following years.

In 1996, a live recording of a solo performance ( Ensounded ) was made in The Cave, Paris . At the end of 1998 he performed there with his quartet (album Enfance ), to which Itaru Oki , Alan Silva and Makoto Sato belonged. In 2007 the trio album In Side ( Ayler Records , with Benjamin Duboc and Didier Lasserre ) and the production There Starts the Future with Benjamin Duboc and Edward Perraud followed . In 2009 the album New Today, New Everyday with Itaru Oki and Makoto Sato was created. Tom Lord lists only seven recording sessions between 1996 and 2009. However, other recordings were made, around 2011 in a duo with Jean-Luc Cappozzo ( Sun Dance / Earth Laugh ) and in a quartet as a Free Form Improvisation Ensemble in 2013 with Burton Greene , Alan Silva and Chris Henderson . He also worked with Yoshisaburo Toyozumi and William Parker .
