Vincent Courtois (born March 21, 1968 in Paris ) is a French jazz cellist .

Live and act

Courtois studied classical cello at the Aubervilliers Conservatory with Erwan Fauré and then with Roland Pidoux and Frédéric Lodéon . He also played jazz music with Didier Levallet and Dominique Pifarély . Since 1988 he has worked in Paris with Christian Escoudé's band and Didier Levallet's Swing String System . He also founded his own quartet and released his first album as a band leader in 1990.

After performing in a duo with Martial Solal , he founded the Pendulum Quartet (with Julien Lourau ), the group Tukish Blend and the Trio Zebra 3 with Franck Tortiller and Xavier Desandre Navarre in 1993 . With Michel Petrucciani , Tony Williams and Dave Holland he recorded the album Marvelous .

In 1995 Courtois gave his first solo concerts and recorded drama and film music with Louis Sclavis . He recorded two albums with the Rabih Abou-Khalil quintet and in 1998 played with the Pierre Favre ensemble and the Yves Robert trio . In 2000 he appeared with three of his own trio formations and a quintet, and in 2002 at the Festival Banlieues Bleues in a trio with Ellery Eskelin and Sylvie Courvoisier .

In 2005 Courtois recorded with Michele Rabbia and Marilyn Crispell and performed the spectacle Sur le Fil in Bamako with his own trio and the trio of Zoumana Tereta . He was at Henri Texier's recording of the music for the film Holy Lola by Bertrand Tavernier involved. In 2006 he founded a new quartet with Jeanne Added , Marc Baron and François Merville .
