Xavier Desandre Navarra (short: XDN ) (born October 11, 1961 in Paris ) is a French jazz musician ( drums , percussion , composition).

Desandre Navarre spent his childhood and youth in Paris and Aix-en-Provence , as well as a year in Iran , where he discovered its percussion culture. He studied classical percussion at the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional in Aix-en-Provence, but was also trained in African and Brazilian percussion.

In 1987 he went to Paris, where Laurent Cugny brought him to his big band Lumière , which toured Europe with Gil Evans . In 1991 Denis Badault made him a member of his edition of the Orchester National de Jazz . Over the next few years he worked with Les Rita Mitsouko , Michel Jonasz , Manu Dibango , Yaron Herman , David Sanborn , Biréli Lagrène , John Scofield , Michel Portal , Didier Lockwood and Stefano Di Battista . He then appeared in Lars Danielsson's production Libera me with a symphony orchestra. He has accompanied Youn Sun Nah since 2008 and is documented on four of her albums. He led his own group. He can also be heard on albums by Rick Margitza , Cæcilie Norby , Jean Pierre Mas , Aldo Romano , Magic Malik , Alan Stivell and Édouard Ferlet .

He also gave solo concerts, around 2009 in the Jardin des Tuileries or in 2012 at the Opéra de Lyon , where he presented his project Beat Body & Soul . In 2010 he and Niels Lan Doky presented the Story of Earth and Water to UNESCO , which was also released on CD.

In 1998 he composed music for the opening ceremony of the Soccer World Cup in Paris; he was also active as a composer for film and television.
