Knut Ebeling

Markus Knut Ebeling (* 1970 in Hamburg ) is a German philosopher , media theorist and art critic . Since 2009 he has been professor for media theory and aesthetics in the field of theory and history at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art . He lives and teaches in Berlin .

biography

Between 1990 and 1993 Knut Ebeling studied philosophy , cultural studies , aesthetics and art history at the Berlin University of the Arts (now the University of the Arts) and the Humboldt University of Berlin (HU Berlin). From 1993 to 1994 he was at the Université Paris VIII to study philosophy and aesthetics, which he completed with a maîtrise on the French reception of Nietzsche.

Between 1996 and 1999 Ebeling wrote his dissertation on Georges Bataille at the Seminar for Aesthetics at the HU Berlin , where he worked in 1999 with the work “The trap. Two readings on Georges Bataille's 'Madame Edwarda' ”. Since 1998 he has been a lecturer at the seminar for aesthetics at the HU Berlin and also received the Carl Einstein Prize of the Art Foundation Baden-Württemberg in 1998 for his texts on the fine arts.

From 1999 to 2001 Knut Ebeling was a post-doc at the DFG graduate college “Coding of violence in media change” at the HU Berlin. Subsequently, from 2002 to 2007 he headed the transdisciplinary research project “Archives of the Past. Knowledge transfer between archeology, philosophy and the arts ”, which was funded by the Volkswagen Foundation in the“ Key Topics in the Humanities ”program. In 2005 he went to Algiers / Algeria as a DAAD guest lecturer at the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts for half a year .

From 2007 to 2009 Knut Ebeling was a member of the DFG network "Archives of Violence", completed his habilitation in 2008 at the Faculty of Art and Cultural Studies at the HU Berlin and received the Venia Legendi for "Cultural Studies / Aesthetics".

From 2007 to 2010 he was also a lecturer at Stanford University in Berlin. In 2009 he was appointed professor for media theory and aesthetics at the Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin . In 2010/12 he received a scholarship from the Akademie Schloss Solitude .

research

Knut Ebeling works as a theorist and critic on a material epistemology of the arts and knowledge. His research interests include modern and contemporary philosophy, cultural-scientific aesthetics and aesthetic theories, media of cultural memory, media archeology and the archeology of contemporary art and knowledge.
