Yaron Herman

Yaron Herman (born July 12, 1981 in Tel Aviv ) is an Israeli jazz pianist living in France .

Life and work

Herman began playing the piano at the age of sixteen, taking lessons from the jazz musician Opher Brayer. Two years later he won the Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music's Young Talent Award . At the beginning of his musical career he performed in Tel Aviv at various venues. At the age of 19 he went to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music , but soon left and continued his studies in Paris. At the age of 21 he presented his first album (Takes 2 to Know 1) for the Sketch label as a duo with drummer Sylvain Ghio . On the basis of a theory of musical improvisation ("Real Time Composition") he had developed, he was invited to teach a series of lectures at the Sorbonne . In 2006 he played solo concerts in Europe, South America, the USA and China; he also performed with the Newtopia project directed by Raphaël Imbert (Suite Elegiaque) .

In 2007, Herman formed his own trio, which featured bassist Matt Brewer and drummer Gerald Cleaver . Since 2009 he has also been touring with Michel Portal ; Yaron Herman played among other things in 2007 and 2008 (the opening concert in 2008) at the Tübingen Jazz and Classic Days and in 2010 at the Villingen-Schwenningen Jazz Festival. Yaron Herman lives in Paris.

Awards

In 2007, Yaron was selected as a jazz talent by the French copyright organization Administration des Droits des Artistes et Musiciens Interprètes , and in the following year was highlighted as the instrumentalist's discovery of the year by the Victoires du Jazz .
