Ziv Ravitz

Ziv Ravitz (* 1976 in Be'er Scheva ) is an Israeli modern jazz drummer . The musician, who currently lives in New York City, is considered to be "the pace of the young Israeli jazz scene" ( Jüdische Allgemeine ).

Live and act

Ravitz, who grew up in a family of musicians, began making music at an early age and learned piano as well as guitar and drums. At nine years old, he concentrated on playing the drums; He began his career as a professional musician at the age of thirteen and played rock music as well as jazz and avant-garde music in various clubs in Be'er Sheva and Tel Aviv . In 1999 he became the house drummer at the Camelot Jazz Club in Tel Aviv and accompanied guest soloists from Europe and the USA. In the summer of 2000 he moved to the United States to study jazz composition in Boston until he graduated in 2004 from Berklee College of Music . There he met Florian Weber and Jeff Denson , with whom he formed the Trio Minsarah in 2001 .

He has toured Europe with groups such as Minsarah, TAQ (with Marcin Masecki and Garth Stevenson ), the Nicolas Simion Group, the Iasi Romanian Philharmonic Orchestra and Lee Konitz . He also played with Hal Crook , Joe Lovano , Eugene Friesen , Mick Goodrick , Eli Dejibri, James Genus , George Garzone , Ben Monder , Stéphane Kerecki , Ramonna Borthwick, Hadar Noiberg, Christoph Pepe Auer , Yaron Herman , Christoph Irniger , Max Johnson or Zbigniew way main .

In 2011 Ravitz founded the Shai Maestro Trio together with the pianist Shai Maestro and the bassist Jorge Roeder . With his own trio and guests, he released another album under his own name in 2019, No Man Is an Island . ,

Prizes and awards

In June 2003 Ravitz received the Zildjian Scholarship Award ; In 2007 Minsarah's debut album made the list of the best of the German Record Critics' Award .
